Project Final Report
This report provides a non-technical overview of the Sound of Vision project in which the consortium partners designed and develop a solution for visually impaired persons to help them better understand their surrounding environment and improve their mobility. As a part of the Sound of Vision solution the consortium also developed training instruments and procedures.
Ground Geometry Assessment in Complex Stereo Vision Based Applications
Authors: Adrian Burlacu, Andrei Baciu, Vasile Ion Manta and Simona Caraiman in: System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC), 2017 21st International Conference on Abstract: Accurate ground area detection is one of the most important tasks in various stereo vision based applications, such as autonomous driving or assistive technologies for visually impaired. Correct assertion of the ground geometry improves… Continue Reading Ground Geometry Assessment in Complex Stereo Vision Based Applications
DetailsDevelopment of a Versatile Assistive System for the Visually Impaired Based on Sensor Fusion
Authors: Nicolae Botezatu, Simona Caraiman, Dariusz Rzeszotarski, Pawel Strumillo in: System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC), 2017 21st International Conference on Abstract: In this paper we describe the 3D acquisition component integrated in the Sound of Vision (SoV) system. SoV is a computer vision based sensory substitution device (SSD) for the visually impaired. Its main objective is to provide… Continue Reading Development of a Versatile Assistive System for the Visually Impaired Based on Sensor Fusion
DetailsNegative Obstacle Detection for Wearable Assistive Devices for Visually Impaired
Authors: Paul Herghelegiu, Adrian Burlacu and Simona Caraiman in: System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC), 2017 21st International Conference on Abstract: The research on developing assistive devices for visually impaired people greatly relies on image processing techniques. Extensive effort is made on detecting the obstacles in front of the user. Beside the normal obstacles that the user can… Continue Reading Negative Obstacle Detection for Wearable Assistive Devices for Visually Impaired
DetailsComputer Vision for the Visually Impaired: the Sound of Vision System
Authors: Simona Caraiman, Anca Morar, Mateusz Owczarek, Adrian Burlacu, Dariusz Rzeszotarski, Nicolae Botezatu, Paul Herghelegiu, Florica Moldoveanu, Pawel Strumillo, Alin Moldoveanu in: 2017 IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision Workshop (ICCVW) Abstract: This paper presents a computer vision based sensory substitution device for the visually impaired. Its main objective is to provide the users with a 3D representation… Continue Reading Computer Vision for the Visually Impaired: the Sound of Vision System
